Bathroom Fitting
What is included in a full bathroom installation?
A full bathroom installation with Artisan Company covers everything from the design stage through to the finished room: space planning and layout, all plumbing and waste connections, wall and floor tiling, plastering and making-good, electrical work for lighting, extraction and shaver points, and the final installation of sanitaryware. Everything is handled by our own team — we do not subcontract the trades out. The room is handed back to you fully decorated and complete.
Can I supply my own bathroom fittings and sanitaryware?
Yes — we are happy to install customer-supplied sanitaryware, tiles, or fittings. We will let you know in advance if any items are unsuitable for the installation approach we are planning, so you can make changes before work begins. If you would like help selecting items, we can advise based on our experience of what works well.
What is a wet room and is it right for my bathroom?
A wet room is a bathroom where the shower area has no tray or enclosure — the floor is fully waterproofed and falls to a drain, so water runs away freely. Wet rooms create a clean, open look and are practical for everyday use. They are a good choice where space is limited, or where a level-access shower is needed. The key to a successful wet room is the substrate preparation and waterproofing — we fully tank the floor and walls before tiling begins. Whether a wet room is the right choice for your bathroom depends on the floor construction and how you use the space — contact us for a free assessment.
Can you adapt an existing bathroom to be more accessible?
Yes — we carry out accessible and mobility bathroom adaptations, including level-access walk-in shower installations, reinforced walls for grab rails, raised or lower-height WC fitting, wider doorways, and other adjustments to support independent living. We design each adaptation around the specific needs of the person using the room, and we carry all the trades in-house so the full scope is managed by one team.
Do you work in period properties?
Yes — a good part of our work is in Victorian, Edwardian and older properties across Dorking, Reigate and the surrounding Surrey villages. Period properties often present challenges that modern homes do not — irregular layouts, older plumbing systems, solid floors, and structural surprises — and our experience in this type of work means we plan for these early and handle them properly.
Kitchens & Tiling
Can I buy my own kitchen units and have you fit them?
Yes — we are experienced in fitting customer-supplied kitchens from IKEA, Howdens, Wren, and other retailers, as well as bespoke and trade-supply options. We will review the specification in advance and let you know if anything needs to change before fitting begins. We handle all associated plumbing, electrical, tiling, and decoration as part of the project.
What tile formats and materials do you work with?
We work with all tile formats — from small mosaic sheets through to large-format porcelain slabs — and all common tile materials including ceramic, porcelain, natural stone, and glass. Large-format tiles require more careful substrate preparation and setting-out, and we have the experience to handle them correctly. We can advise on which formats suit your space and budget at the design stage.
How We Work
Do you use subcontractors, or do you handle all the trades yourselves?
We carry out all the core trades in-house — plumbing, electrical, tiling, plastering, carpentry and decoration. This is an important part of how we work. It means the project is co-ordinated by one team, the schedule is in our control, and the accountability for the finished room sits with us rather than being divided between several contractors. If you have a question during the job, there is one number to call.
Is design consultation included, or is it an extra charge?
Design consultation is included as part of a full installation project — it is not charged as a separate service. We visit the space, discuss what you want, think about the layout together, and advise on materials and fittings before providing a quote. We believe the design stage is where the project is planned properly or where problems start, so we give it proper time and attention.
What does a full home renovation project involve?
A full home renovation — covering more than one room, or a significant reconfiguration of a property — involves all the same trades as a bathroom or kitchen project, but coordinated across a wider scope and a longer timeline. We plan the sequence of work carefully so trades do not block each other, and we communicate progress regularly throughout. You have one project lead and one point of contact for the whole job. Contact us for a free discussion about your project and we will give you an honest view of what is involved.
How long does a bathroom installation take?
The duration depends on the scope of work, the condition of the existing room, and the specification you have chosen. We will give you a realistic programme estimate when we quote — this varies project by project and we prefer not to give generic timescales that may not apply to your job. What we can say is that we plan the work carefully so each phase follows the previous one efficiently, and we keep you informed of progress throughout.
